MiddleNecropolissuperstructures.
Tebuildingmusthavebeenakind
ofamausoleumwithatleasttombCV
173withinthewallsbuiltmoreorless
atthesametime.Familygravesatthe
Komel-Dikkanecropolistendedtobe
surroundedbylowwalls,whichformed
aprayerhouseofsortswithamihrabonthe
southernside.Inthiscase,thewallswere
moresolidandanentrancereplacedthe
prayernicheonthesouth.
Latergraves
Acomplexofgravesevidentlyoflaterdate
[Fig.23bottom]comprisedfivegraves
andafewstoneclustersthatcouldnotbe
establishedsatisfactorilytobefunerary
structures.Tehighburialintensityinthis
areaoveranextendedperiodoftime
isreflectedinsometombstonesbeing
located0.60maboveearliermarkers.
Gravesconsistingofasuperstructureover
agravepitoraboxweretypicalofthe
period.Laterburials,includingCV155
andCV159,aremostlikelytheremainsof
decorativesuperstructureswithamihrab.
Teburialboxesherewerenotpreserved.
Astilllatergroupofgraves,CV161,
CV162andCV163,survivedatthebox
level.
BurialboxesCV161toCV163are
exceptional.Teyarelargeandarefur-
nishedwithatrapdoorinashafsituated
ontheeasternside[Fig.24;seealsoabove,
Fig.9].Teentrancetotheburialcham-
berwasfittedwithstairsandthechamber
itselfwasvaulted.Teboxwasbuiltof
smallstonesandplasteredontheinside.
Teinsidedimensionsfallwithintherange
of0.90mby2.80m,thechamberitself
measuring0.90mby2.10m.Tefloor,
located0.75mbelowthelineofwalls,
wasfilledwitha10cmlayerofsand.Each
ofthesegravescontainedaskeletonof
asingleindividual.Similargraveswere
presentatotherlocationsintheKom
el-Dikkacemetery.One,C12,wassitu-
ated,inareaCtotheeast(Kołątaj1976:
Pl.III).YetanothersimilargraveT98was
uncoveredinareaAWin
thebaths.
