I.Introduction

GrigolPeradzewrotehisdiarieswhenhewasneitheraclergymannor

aprofessoroftheology.Therefore,thememoriescollectedhere,mostly

relatetoaperiodwhenhewasjustastudentofTbilisiUniversityand

dreamedofascientificcareer,while,doinghismilitaryserviceaswell.

Hisnarrativeenablesthereadertotraceoneofthemostturbulent

timesinGeorgia,theeventstakingplaceinthe1920s,whichGrigolPer-

adzewasawitnessto,andtofollowthelifestoryofayoungmancoping

withthedifficultiesoftroubledtimes,simultaneouslytryingtodiscover

hispurposeinlife.Infact,onecanrarelygettoknowapersonsoclosely

rightatthemomentwhenhisspiritualpilgrimagebeginsandhisworld-

viewisbeingformed.

GrigolPeradzedescribesreligiousdilemmasandportraysdifferent

peopleheusedtomeet;hedepictsplaceshehadbeenlinkedtosincehis

childhoodandwhichrepresenthismodernreality,includingtheattitude

ofpoliticalpowertothechurchandthestrugglebetweentheknowledge

andcompromisehewaspreoccupiedwithatthetime.Hewritesabout

theeventsthathadleftamarkonhisheart,hisyouthandrevolt,andthe

searchforapathnecessarytofindtheanswerstotheessentialquestions.

GrigolPeradzeactuallypredictedhisfuture,whichcanbeconfirmedby

manyemotionalepisodesandtragicvisionsofhismemories.

In1921,hewenttoGermanytocontinuehisstudies,andfromthen

on,hisdestinybecameinextricablylinkedwithEurope.Indeed,despite

repeatedattempts,hecouldnolongerreturntohishomeland.Themanu-

scriptiswrittenwithblackinkandpartlywithpencil.Insomeplacesit
