Introduction
AccordingtotheTreatyofVersailles(1919),Elblagbecameaprovince
inEastPrussia.TeeconomyofElblagstartedtoexperienceacrisis.Waves
ofstrikesanddemonstrationswentthroughthecity.Te1930sbroughtan-
otherboomofindustryinthecity.Elblagbecameoneofthegarrisoncities
oftheTirdReich.Atthattimeanairportwasbuiltonitsterritory,gasand
sewagesystemsweremodernized,theportwasmodernized,tramlineswere
rebuiltandthewaterwaywasdeepeneduptotheVistulaLagoon.
Elblagisstilladevelopingcity.Itisamajorcenterofheavyindustry,food
industryandtourism.TelargestplantinElblagistheBrewery,whichis
partoftheZywiecGroupandABB.

On7April2016,avisualizationoftheplannedcanalwaspresented.At
thesametime,thechoiceoflocation-NowySwiatbetweenPrzebrnoand
Skowronki-andthenameNewWorldShippingCanalwereconfirmed.
Tecanalispartofa22.88kmlonginvestmentintheconstructionof
awaterwayconnectingtheVistulaLagoonwiththeGulf.Itconsistsofsec-
tions:
-ontheElblagRiver-10.38km,
-ontheVistulaLagoon-10.18km,
-withintheVistulaSpitwiththeexternalharbor-2.32km.
Tewholeprojectwasdividedinto3implementationstages,whichin-
clude:
StageI:
-shelteringharbor,
-navigationchannelwithasluice,
-roadsysteminthespitareawithswingbridges,
-cubatureobjects,includingthemaster’soficebuilding,
-artificialisland.
StageII:
-WaterwayontheElblagRiver,
-rotarybridgeinNowakowo,
-districtroad.
StageIII:
-FairwayontheVistulaLagoon.
