ofatransmutationofShakespeareintoKShakespeare,»orShakespeare
intheinvertedcommassuppliedbyhisGothicappropriators.Allsuch
evidenceneedstobetakenintoaccountandexamined.26
Asystematicexaminationofverbaltextureasproofofliteraryandcul-
turalappropriationhastousespecialmethodstohandlethepeculiartype
ofevidence,e.g.theepigraph,theverbalborrowing,andvarioustypesof
moreorlessconspicuousallusions.Muchofthismaterialiscertainlyin-
conspicuous,attheoutsetatleast,incontrasttosuchblatantinstances
ofaccommodationofShakespeareasthenotoriousalterationsoftheplays
