Astensionsbetweenndissenting”laityandChurchmembersincreased,
itwasdeterminedthatconditionsforharmoniouscooperationmightbe
foundinthediscoveryofGospelsourcesespousingvaluesrecognizedand
defendedevenbythedissentingmembersoftheintelligentsia.Suchpro-
cessesofmutualdiscovery,dialogueandmutualacceptancearoseinthe
Laskimilieu.
ItisinLaski,amongotherplaces,wheretherootsofthereligiousrevival
ofPolishCatholicintelligentsialie.Whileworkingwiththeblind,manyofits
sightedmembersdiscoveredaninternalworldwhichtheyhadnotpreviously
knownnorrecognized.
Theblind,ontheotherhand,hadaccesstothemostprogressivepedagogical
andsocialideasofthetime.MotherCzackaandFatherWładysławKorniłowicz
triedtoensurethattheirchargescouldreachthehighestlevelofprofessional
development.Theytookcaretoexposeboththepedagoguesandthoseintheir
caretothebestachievementsofscience,andtoimplementtheminpractice.The
developmentandgreatnessofLaskihasbeenaffectedbymanypeopledistin-
guishedfortheircontributionstocultureandsociety;theyhavealsoleftaperma-
nentmarkinthehistoryofthePolishChurchandthearchdiocese.Theyinclude
greatsisters,suchasSisterTeresaLandy,thepoetessSisterNullaWestwalewi-
czówna,orSisterKatarzynaSokołowska.Apartfromthesisters,theworkhas
beencontributedtobydistinguishedpriestssuchasStefanCardinalWyszyński,
FatherWładysławKorniłowicz(bothServantsofGod),thebrotherpriestsAlek-
sanderandTadeuszFederowicz,FatherAntoniMarylski,andFatherJerzyWolff,
apainter.LaypersonswhohavecontributedtotheworkincludeZofiaMorawska,
IrenaTyszkiewicz,HenrykRuszczycandZygmuntSerafinowicz.Otherpeople
connectedwithLaskiincludeJerzyZawieyski,thepoetJerzyLiebert,andmany
more–itwouldbeimpossibletolistthemall.
Theparticularsensitivitytowhatisbotheternalandatthesametimenew,
alongwiththedesiretoapproachandobtainanswersreflectedthemostvivid
andrenewingcurrentofCatholicrevivalinPolandandEurope.Acharacter-
isticfeatureoftheLaskimilieuwasthecareforbeautyandspiritofliturgy
andtherediscoveryofThomism.
Thankstoitssimplicityandhumbleservicetotheblind,Laskiduringthe
lastcenturyhaswitnessednumerousconversionsandencounterswiththe
GodofMercy.
