.Itwouldseemthat
theseareinnocentwords,buttheycarryapromiseofaconcreteaction(e.g.for
somepeople,thephrasenI’llgetbacktoyouinacoupleofdays”meansthecon-
tactintwotothreedays,whereasninamoment”meansnotintheeveningorto-
morrowbutwithinhalfanhour,sincethisishowtheywereraisedinthefamily
andatschool).Moreandmoreofenwecomeacrosssituationswherewords
meannothing,areso-callednemptywords”andthenthepeopleusingthese
wordsaresurprisedthattherearemisunderstandingsorthatsomeoneisangry
orofended.
Itisworthstressingherethatmakingemptypromisesisnotjustaproblem
foryoungpeople;theproblemexistsbothamongyoungpeopleandadults.
Youngpeopleareareflectionofwhatishappeningintheadultworld.Terefore,
ifadultsdonotpayattentiontowhattheysayandconsequentlydonotactac-
cordingtowhattheysay,whyshouldyoungpeopleactdiferently?Aferall,they
learnfromadults.Anotherissueisthewidespreadfailuretorespondtothefact
thatadultssaysomethingbutactcompletelydiferently.
Onestudypresentedresearchonthevalueofwordsamongyoungpeo-
ple.Unfortunately,theresultsareworrying.Foronly42.6%oftherespondents,
thewordstheysayhavesignificantmeaning.For52.2%ofyoungpeople,words
havenomeaningatall:eithertheydonotattachanyimportancetothem,orthey
treatthemascourtesyphrasesbecausesomethinghastobesaid(interestingly,
thisanswerwasindicatedbyallthemenparticipatingintheresearch).Asshown
bythemanyhoursofconversationswithyoungpeople,suchasituationiscer-
tainlynotduetoignorancebutduetoalackofinternalizationofcertainvalues,
identityconfusion,andalackofunderstandingoftheimportanceofkeeping
wordstoshapetheperson’simage(Karpuszenko,2016,p.28).
Teabovementionedresultsonlyconfirmthebeliefthatthereisaprob-
lemwithunderstandingthevalueofwords,withunderstandingthemeaning
ofwordsandthevalueofkeepingaword.Teso-calledpost-modernityand
