andOralSources,writtenundertheguidanceofProf.M.KrzysztofByrskiand
reviewedbyProf.AlexanderM.DubyanskiyofMoscowStateUniversityand
Prof.ŁukaszTrzcińskiofJagiellonianUniversity.Dr.J.Kusio’smainfieldof
interestwasmedievalTamilliterature,especiallythegenreofkuzavañci,South
Indianfolkloreandthecultofgoddesses.
JacekWoźniakdefendedhisPhDthesisin2005.Thethesis,entitledTradition
andModernityinJayakanthan,sShortStories,waswrittenunderthesupervision
ofProf.DanutaStasikandreviewedbyProf.AlexanderM.Dubyanskiyof
MoscowStateUniversityaswellasProf.M.KrzysztofByrskiofWarsaw
University.Since2000,Dr.J.WoźniakhasbeenteachingTamilgrammarand
literature.
ThenameofProf.AlexanderM.DubyanskiyofMoscowStateUniversity
shouldbestronglyemphasizedhereashehasbeenactivelyparticipatingin
promotingallPolishPhDholdersinTamil.
NataliaŚwidzińskaisonemoregraduateoftheDepartmentofSouthAsian
StudiesoftheUniversityofWarsawwhoisactivelyengagedinthefieldofTamil
StudiesinPoland.SheteachesTamilatAdamMickiewiczUniversityinPoznań.
Atpresent,threestudentsarecontinuingtheirpost-graduatestudiesinTamil
andarepreparingtheirPhDdissertations.JoannaDrożak-Chojnackaismainly
interestedinDravidiandemonology,KarolinaŁaszewskaisworkingonthecult
ofthegoddessMfiriyammaṉ,andNataliaŻakowskastudiesSouthIndianmusical
anddancetradition.
Ashasalreadybeenmentioned,TamilStudiesattheUniversityofWarsaw
oweagreatdealtothegovernmentofIndia,andinparticulartotheIndian
CouncilofCulturalRelationsandtheIndianEmbassyinWarsaw.Withoutthe
nativespeakersengagedasVisitingProfessorsforthelast40years,theteaching
ofTamilwouldnotbepossibleinWarsaw.IndiasupportsTamilStudiesatthe
