interestwasmedievalTamilliterature,especiallythegenreofkuzavañci,South
Indianfolkloreandthecultofgoddesses.
JacekWoźniakdefendedhisPhDthesisin2005.Thethesis,entitledTradition
andModernityinJayakanthan,sShortStories,waswrittenunderthesupervision
ofProf.DanutaStasikandreviewedbyProf.AlexanderM.Dubyanskiyof

University.Since2000,Dr.J.WoźniakhasbeenteachingTamilgrammarand
literature.

shouldbestronglyemphasizedhereashehasbeenactivelyparticipatingin
promotingallPolishPhDholdersinTamil.
NataliaŚwidzińskaisonemoregraduateoftheDepartmentofSouthAsian
StudiesoftheUniversityofWarsawwhoisactivelyengagedinthefieldofTamil
StudiesinPoland.SheteachesTamilatAdamMickiewiczUniversityinPoznań.
Atpresent,threestudentsarecontinuingtheirpost-graduatestudiesinTamil
andarepreparingtheirPhDdissertations.JoannaDrożak-Chojnackaismainly
interestedinDravidiandemonology,KarolinaŁaszewskaisworkingonthecult
ofthegoddessMriyammaṉ,andNataliaŻakowskastudiesSouthIndianmusical
anddancetradition.
Ashasalreadybeenmentioned,TamilStudiesattheUniversityofWarsaw
oweagreatdealtothegovernmentofIndia,andinparticulartotheIndian
CouncilofCulturalRelationsandtheIndianEmbassyinWarsaw.Withoutthe
nativespeakersengagedasVisitingProfessorsforthelast40years,theteaching
