Whenplanningasyllabus,theteachertakesintoaccountmoredetailsrelatedto
planningspecificaspectsofthelessonswhichwillbetaughtoveraperiodoftime.An
exampleofasyllabusformattobeusedbyteachertraineesinapre-servicecourseispre-
sentedbelow.Accordingtothisformat,thesyllabuscontainsdetailedlistsofthematic
units,lessontopics,andgroupsofrevisedandnewvocabulary,aswellaspassiveandac-
tivestructures,languagefunctionsandactivitytypes.Thetraineesareadvisedtolinkthe
revisedvocabularywiththenewonetoshowhowtheyarerelatedtooneanother.Itisal-
soimportanttoshowtheprogressionfromthepassivestructurestoactiveones.Inthe
‘assessment,slotabovethetablethetraineesarerequestedtogiveexamplesoftypical
formsofassessmentusedinthecourse,e.g.oralorwrittentests,externaltests,observa-
tionoflearners,performanceinclassanddescriptiveassessmentafterasemester.
