ofshapingthesenseandaimoflife

Avitaldrawbackthatdisturbsthefeelingofsubjectivityofpeople

whoaresubjecttoaprisonsentenceisasigniﬁcantlimitation

ofthepossibilityofrealisingtheirownpreferences,i.a.aimsinlifeandthesense

oflife.V.E.Frankl(1978:15–18)claimsthatthefeelingofsenseofliferesults

fromanexperienceofsatisfactionfromlifeasawholeanditisnotgivenonce

andforall.Extremenegativelifeconditions,suchasastayinapenalinstitution,

resultsinadecreaseofthelevelofsenseofexistence.Insuchconditions,thefeel-

ingofsubjectivityisdistortedandcontributestothedevelopmentofanegative

identity.

Teabovementionedphenomenaareconnectedwithasubjectivefeelingof

alienationorevenunrealityofself,whichareconsequencesofimprisonment.

Tedepersonalisationisprimarilyassociatedwithalackofpossibilitiestorealise

theaimsandplansforthefuture,or,atleast,apostponementoftherealisation

thatlastsyears.Telackofpossibilitiesofrealisingtheplansconnectedwith

familylifeandthedeprivationofemotionalneeds,i.a.theneedforloveand

intimacywithanotherhumanbeingthatisindispensableforpeople.Teprocess

resultsinchangesinself-esteemandalackofself-aﬃrmation.

Existentialistrehabilitationis,ﬁrstandforemost,aimedatsuchaspectsof

humanlife(thelifeofthecriminal)asthelackofsenseandaimoflife,anxiety,

depression,internalsuﬀering,afearofthefuture,thefeelingofguiltandpes-

simism.Temethodsofneutralisingthesenegativestatesthatresultfromlife

experienceandthestateofimprisonmentcontradicttheemptinessandlackof

sensebymeansofaspiritualaﬃrmationofself.Itisrehabilitationthatisdirected

atdevelopinganabilitytosensiblydealwiththeinevitablestatesofthehuman

life,whichinthecaseofpeopleill-adaptedinthecriminalsensereachextreme

forms.Inthefaceofsuchastateofaﬀairs,itisdiﬃculttospeakaboutartis-

ticrehabilitationfocusedondevelopmentandchangesinidentity.Teaspects

ofhumanlife,suchasartisticactivity,thehumanpotential,biophylicattitude

and,ﬁnally,loveforoneselfandothers,basedonhumanisticactionswillonly
