Introduction
Tefundamentalquestionsontheinterdependenceoftheeconomyandthe
economicawarenessandtherelationshipbetweenthesetwoarenotalwayseasy.
Ingeneral,theyareformulatedasifthetwowereseparatesystemsthatinteract
witheachother.Someresearcherstreateachsystemasanindependentvariable
and,dependingontheviews,explaineconomicphenomenabyreferencingboth
separately.KarlMarxregardedtheeconomyasafactorinfluencingsocialaware-
ness,whereasMaxWeberregardedsocialawarenessasanelementinfluencing
theeconomy.Whowasright?Itwouldbesafesttosaythatthereisanimpacton
bothsidesandthatbothhumanawarenessańectstheeconomyandtheeconomy
ańectssocialawareness.
Telatterispartofawidereconomicculture.Terelationshipbetween
awarenessandtheeconomyismoreofenpointedoutbysociologiststhan
economists.Tisisprimarilyduetothefactthatsociologistsarethescholars
moreofeninvolvedinawarenessandculture,i.e.thesofdata.Economistsin
turnaretrainedintheuseofquantitativedata,whichisnotlikelytoawaken
sensitivitytoculturaldata.Teinterestsofbothacademicgroupsintermsof
researchconcerningculture,includingtheawarenessofeconomicsocieties,are
revivedwheneconomicgrowthstartstoaccelerateinsomecountriesorregions
andtheexplanationforitishardtoconceivebyturningtotheknownmodels.
Onlythendoesresearchonotherfactors,includingculturalones,begintoplay
anessentialrole.
Tisissuewasthusraisedontheoccasionofnotingtheeconomicsuccess
ofcountriesofSoutheastAsia,especiallyJapan,Tailand,andmorerecently
China.Also,therapiddevelopmentofsomeregionsofIndia(e.g.Bangalore)
indicatesalargeshareofculturalfactorsatworkcontributingtothissuc-
cess,includingeconomicawareness.Andfinally,thisproblemispresentin
theanalysisoftheeconomicdevelopmentofpost-communistcountries,whose
developmentisirregular.TesecountriesincludetheVisegradcountries-Po-
land,theCzechRepublic,SlovakiaandHungary.Futureeconomicdevelop-
mentofeachcountryanditsprosperitydependsontheeconomicawarenessof
