theﬁrstcolophoninformationbyAmeszhabsgivesustheimpressionthatNgag

dbang’jiggragshadalsowrittenashortcommentaryonAvaddnakalpalatdoratext

relatedtoit,andfromthesecondcolophonwecanlearnthatNgagdbang’jig

gragshadathisdisposalmanyreliableoriginaltextmaterialswritteninTibetan

andSanskrit.

AccordingtothecolophonofthetextRigpa)dzinpa)iphonya,itwascom-

pletedinthethirdmonth()dodpa)izlabanagpacan)oftheFireSnakeyear,

whichcorrespondsto1557CE,anditwasthelastliteraryworkofNgagdbang

’jiggrags.Informationregardingtheauthor’sdateofbirthandhisdeathfoundin

differentsourcesseemstobespeculationratherthanconﬁrmedfacts.Inthiswork

aswell,theauthordoesnottellusthedateofhisbirth,andwecanonlyestimate

bycomparingothersourcesthathewasbornattheveryendofthe15thcentury

oratthebeginningofthe16thcentury.Electronicsourcesarenotalwaysrelia-

ble;however,Wikipediagives1565CEasthedateofhisdeathbutdoesnotgive

hisdateofbirth.10However,inthebookDpalkarmapaskuphrengrimbyongyi

mdzadrnamitissaidthatintheyear1566CE(Mestag)Ngagdbang’jiggrags

invitedtheeleven-year-oldninthKarmapaDbangphyugrdorjewiththeﬁfth

ZhadmarmapaKunmchogyanlagtotheRinspungsfort(BDRC,W18133,

vol.1,p.171).ButthebookBka)brgyudgserphrengrnamtharZlabachushel

gyiphrengbainformsusthatithappenedin1567CE(Yoslo),oneyearlater

thanmentionedabove(Bka)brgyudgserphreng,vol.2,p.418).Theofferingshe

madeatthattimefortwolamasarerecoredindetailinhisseventeen-foliopoem
