pectedofthepresumptionthatyetanotherbookontimeinShakespeare
makessenseanditsperusalworththewhile.Thesimpledistinctionthat
Iwouldliketouseisthatbetweenanalyticandsynthetictypesofap-
proach.TheDramaticPotentialofTimeinShakespearewaslargelyanana-
lyticeffortinthatemphasiswasfirmlylaiduponthemanyanddifferent
waysofunderstanding“time.”Thisbookoffersachangeofperspective.
Letmeexplainhowthisdifferenceworkswhenappliedtothematterin
hand.
