betweenmediatedexperienceoftheIraqiwarand“commodiﬁed”memory(D.LaCapra,sterm).

Sontag,sconceptofaresponsiblerepresentationofpain,Žižek,sideologicalandpoliticalanalysisof

theIraqiwarcontextandpossibleconsequencesandBaker,sﬁctionalizedemotionalresponsetowar

suferingsofernewinsightsintoacomplexcoexistenceofprivatememoriesandpublicaccounts

andtheethicaldilemmastheyposeforconsumersofinformation.Fromdiferentperspectives,both

ﬁedviolenceandhumansufering.Possiblewaystoarticulateandnegotiateethicallyacceptableand

sensibledecisionsaimedathandlingthetraumaticexperiencesthattheparticipantsandobservers

onbothsidesofthewarsharearethefocusofBaker,snovelandSontag,sresearch.Teawareness

oflimitsandethicalchallengesofvisualandverbalrepresentationsofthecontemporarytraumatic

experienceandwar-relatedsuferingsarepresentedasaculturalandmoralnecessityforgettingfrom

thestateofbeingpossessedbymemorytopossessionofmemory.
