andVilamovian.Thesystemsofthetwolanguagesareexpectedtoexhibitsimilartraits
sincetheybelongtothesameWestGermanicfamily
.Theproblemofdomainstructure
willbediscussedwithinthemodelofGovernmentPhonology
.Weshallidentifytypes
ofconstituentsallowedbyeitherofthelanguagesandproposestructuralconfigurations
underlyingthemanifestationofconsonantclustersoccurringbothatdomainedges
andinsidephonologicaldomains.Further,system-specificpropertiesofemptynuclei
willbeindicated.Thefinalsectionwillsummarizeboththesimilaritiesanddiferences
concerningdomainstructureinEnglishandVilamovian.

EnglishandVilamovianperceivedthroughtheopticofGovernment

.BothlanguagesbelongtotheWestGermanicfamilyand
wepredictthatinterestingparallelscanbeobservedasregardsthe
organizationofthelanguages’phonologicalsystems.Acomparative
surveywewishtoproposeismeanttorevealthatthoughterritorially
distant,EnglishandVilamovianmayexhibitverysimilarphonological
characteristics.Theissueofdomainstructurehasbeenchosenassub-
jectofinvestigationsincedataconcerningthisaspectofVilamovian
