phonologicaldomains.Aswillberevealedpresently

certainconsequencesforthesyllabificationofconsonantclusters.In-
terestingly
,acloserexaminationofFlorianBiesik’spoemsleadsusto
theconclusionthattheconsonantalsystemofVilamovianalsoexhibits
contrastivelengthdistinctions.Consequently
,wecanfindgeminated
consonantsinthislanguage,whichinspellingisindicatedbydoubling
agivenletter.Thus,Biesikprovidesuswithsuchexamplesaskenna,
besser,byssa,ceryssa,fetta,cyttyn,rytta.Admittedly
,suchsourcesas
Lasatowicz(1992)orKleczkowski(1920)donotmentiontheexistence
ofconsonantalgeminatesinVilamovian.Becauseofthelackofdatathat
wouldhelpusdecidewhichstandpointisthecorrectone,theproblem
ofgeminateswillnotbepursuedinthisstudy
.
