Abstract:
Culturalidentityinexileconditionsconsistsofethnicandgenealogicalsphere.Italsodealswith
thoseinherentcomponentsofanethniccommunity,likehistory,folklore,literatureandlanguage.
ThemothertongueissueswereveryimportfortherepresentativesofthefirstRussianemigration
wave.Similarly,likeinanydiaspora,thelanguagehastwomainfunctionsinthiscase:infor-
mation-asawayofcreatinganddisseminatingknowledge,values,traditions,etc.,andaninte-
gratingfunction,whichreflectedtheemotionalattitudetothelanguage.Sothemainquestionre-
mainsthemutualrelationshipsandtherelationshipsbetweenlanguage(linguisticsituation)and
identityintermsofemigration.Tryingtoanswerthatquestionweneed,firstofall,toconsider
languageissuesasanintegralpartofthenationalconsciousness,withoutwhichitisimpossibleto
fillhistoricmissionbyemigration,whichsoemotionallyweredebatingitsrepresentatives.After
allemigrantsrecognizethemselvesastheguardiansoftheRussianliterarylanguage,beingtheba-
sisofnationalculture.Hisliteraryandjournalisticatexile,inthevastmajority,werecharacterized
bytheneedtoarticulatetheirbelongingtotheRussianpeople,theOrthodoxreligion,“Rus-
sianess”.Whattheysharedwasalsoabeliefinthepossibilityofreturningtothepre-revolutionary
pastandrestore“ThenonSovietRussia”.Theconsequenceoftheseeffortswastostriveforsancti-
ficationofwhatwasnational,exposingthoseattributesthatgavethemasenseofculturalroots.
