IthasbeenmorethantwodecadesnowsincetheSouthAsianStudiescentres

oftheCharlesUniversityinPragueandtheUniversityofMilanllaterjoined

graduallybytheJagiellonianUniversityinCracow,theUniversityofWarsaw

andtheUniversityofCagliarilinitiatedatraditionofholdingyearlyseminarson

specifictopicscarefullyselectedfromthefieldofIndianliteratureandculture,

organizedinrotationbythememberinstitutions,whichusuallyalsoprepare

thepapersforpublication.ThisfruitfulcooperationwasformalizedinWarsaw

on27September2008,whenthefirstfouroftheabove-mentioneduniversities

signedaLetterofIntent;theUniversityofCagliarisignedtheLetterin2015.

TherepresentativesoftheChairofSouthAsianStudies,FacultyofOriental

Studies,UniversityofWarsaw,havebeenparticipatingintheactivitiesofthe

networksince2002.Untilnow,theChairhavehadthehonourandpleasure

ofhostingthreeseminars,namely4TheCityandtheForestinClassicalIndian

Literature’in2008(theproceedingswerepublishedin20101),4TheStateand

SocietyatPeaceandWarinIndianLiteratureandArt’in2012and4Journeys

andTravellers,RoutesandDestinationsinIndianLiteratureandArt’in2017

(theproceedingswerepublished,intwovolumes,in20182).

TheInternationalSeminar4TheStateandSocietyatPeaceandWarinIndian

LiteratureandArt’,financiallysupportedbytheVice-RectoroftheUniversity

ofWarsaw,washeldontheUniversitypremisesbetween13-15September2012
