Thefollowingthreearticlesdiscussselectedissuesconcerningelderlyrural
inhabitantsofVietnam.TranQuyLong-theauthorofthearticleAccesstoSocial
SecurityfortheRuralElderlyinVietnam-emphasisesthatageingisachallengeand
requiresanewapproachtoretirementpensions,healthcareandsocialinstitutions
fortheelderly.Accordingtotheresultsoftheauthor’sstudytheelderlyinVietnam
mustovercomemanyadministrativedifficultiesinordertobenefitfromsocial
welfareschemes,theonlyrealbeneficiariesofthesystembeingthosewhoareover
80yearsoldandwhodonotreceiveanypensionorotherbenefits.Theenjoyment
ofsocialwelfarediffersbetweenelderlygroupswithdifferentpersonalandsocial
characteristics.
InOlderPeople’sCapacitiesandIntergenerationalMutualSupportProvision
inVietnam,TrinhThaiQuangandVasoontaraYiengprugsawanstudyintergenera-
tionalsupportbetweentheelderlyandtheirchildren.Theanalysisincludesfi-
nancialsupport,householdchores,careoftheelderlyandhelpatwork.The
authorsagreethatintergenerationalexchangeisconsideredanempiricalindicator
offunctionalsolidarityandacoreconstituentofintergenerationalsolidarity.The
studyresultssuggestthattheelderlywithmoreresourcestendtobeinvolved
inmutualintergenerationalsupportrelationships,particularlyfinancialsupport.
Additionally,age,maritalstatus,livingarrangements,thenumberofchildren,and
thehealthofolderparentssignificantlycontributetoencouragingmutualsupport.
TheroleofafamilyindailycareoftheelderlywasstudiedbyDangThanhNhan.
InTheRoleoftheFamilyinDailyCarefortheElderlyinChangingRuralVietnam
theauthoridentifiestheforcesthataffecthoweachfamilymemberprovidescare
fortheirelderlyinthesocialandculturalcontextofVietnam.Familyeconomic
condition,healthstatus,illness,sex,age,andworkingstatushavesignificantimpacts
onthehealthoftheelderly.Theauthorconcludesthatfamiliesplayaveryimportant
roleincarefortheelderlyandthatwomenstillplaycrucialrolesincaringfor
theelderlyregardlessofcircumstances.

VitaliyKrupin,presentananalysisofkeydemographictrendswithinthelast30years
concerningageinginUkraine.Ukraineisoneofagroupofcountriescharacterised
byahighrateofageing,asaccordingtotheproportionofthepopulationaged60and
olderitisamongthe30“oldest”nations.Intheirstudytheauthorstakeaccount
ofnationaltrendsaswellasregionaldifferences,whilepresentingkeydemographic
indicators.Theyalsopointtospecificconditionswhichinfluencenegativetrends
intheUkrainiandemographics,suchaslowerincomelevelsanddeterioration
ofthestandardofliving,especiallyinruralareas,RussianannexationoftheCrimean
