2.Tehistoryofthedeafbasketballcompetitions
playinhearingclubs,theneedtocombineprofessionalworkwithtraining,
alimitednumberofconsultationsandgroupingsofnationalteams.
Teplayersofthenationaldeafteamscanbeathleteswhohaveamin-
imumlevelofhearingturnoverinabetterear,atthelevelof55dB.Tese
playersmostofenplaybasketballasamateurs,mainlyinclubsassociating
deafpeople.Playersareraretoplayinclubstogetherwithhearingplayers.
Onlydeafplayersrepresentingthehighestbasketballlevel,withamin-
imaldegreeofhearingturnover(around55-70dB),playinteamsofhigher
leaguesforhearing.Duringthecompetition,deafathletesarenotallowed
tousehearingaids,cochlearimplants,etc.,whichisdictatedbytheprin-
cipleoffairplayinthesportofthedeaf.InthehistoryoftheOlympic
Games(forhearingpeople)between1908and2018,about20athleteswith
hearingimpairmentsrepresentingvarioussportsdisciplinestookpartin
thesummerandwinterOlympics(deafathletescanusehearingaidsand
cochlearimplantswhenparticipatinginsportscompetitionsforhearing).

2.1.TheSummerDeafGames
TecentralorganizationfordeafathletesistheInternationalCommittee
fortheSportsoftheDeaf(ICSD-theequivalentoftheInternational
OlympicCommittee).ICSDwasestablishedin1924.Itisthemainorga-
nizerofworldsportingeventsforthedeaf,mainlydeafgamesandworld
championships.ItshouldbementionedthattheInternationalOlympic
CommitteesupportstheactivitiesoftheICSD.Currently,113nationalfed-
erationsfromallcontinentsareafliatedtotheICSD.Teorganizationof
internationaleventsisalsohandledby:DeafInternationalBasketballFed-
eration-DIBF,InternationalChessCommitteeoftheDeaf-ICCD,World
DeafGolfFederation-WDGF,operatingundertheICSD.
Teinternationalsportofdeafpeoplehasanearly100-yeartradition,
startedin1924inPariswithacompetitioncalled:TeInternationalSilent
Games(thenameofTeInternationalSilentGameswasusedinterchange-
ablywiththenameofTeInternationalGamesfortheDeafuntil1965).
In1966,thepreviousnamewaschangedtotheWorldGamesfortheDeaf,
