InChristianity,whileponderinguponasacredtextthereadercould
bemovedaffectionatelyandcognitivelytothestateofcontemplation,
i.e.restinginthepresenceofGod(Keating2002:20).Itisakindof
unionwithGod,notreflectiveandpassive.InSpiritualExercises,Saint
Ignatiusproposedsomeconsecutivetechniquestoachievethestateof
contemplation,by:
1.Intellectualelaborationofthetopics(discoursivemeditations).
2.Gazingattheobjectofimaginationandseeingthepersonsfrom
theGospels.
3.Applicationofthefivesensesinspirittomeditateanddevelop
spiritualsenses(ibid.:22).
