ofsurfacetreatment.Colourswereestablishedbyusingthe(MunsellSoilColourChart’(Year2000edi-
tion).Inthelastsectionofthedescriptivesection–Fdetailsaregivenofthetypologicalclassification
oftheartefact.Inthecaseofmanyartefacts,inordertoharmonizethetypologies,referencestotherel-
evantliteratureareprovidedinchronologicalorderoftheirpublication.
UnderIVaproposeddateofproductionisgiventotheartefact.Ingenerallampstendedtobeused
onlyforashortperiodoftime,consequentlythisdatecouldwellberegardedasthedateoftheirdeposition
too.Tedateswereestablishingbytypologicalclassificationoftheartefact,aswellasbythechronology
establishedforotheranalogousartefacts,aswellaslesssignificantconsiderations.
Analogieswhichhavebeenfoundfortheartefactunderdiscussionarelistedattheendofthecata-
logueentry,underV.Analogiesareunderstoodtobeidenticalorcloselysimilarartefactstotheoneunder
consideration.Referencesaregivenalphabeticallyandintheformofauthoranddate,followedbyan
artefactnumberandadrawingorphotographicplate,orthepagereference.Referencesaregiveninna-
tivelanguageofpublication.InthecaseofsomereferencestolampsintheBritishMuseum,forexample:
Bailey1980:Q1345,pl.22(Walters1914:no.123)asecondreferenceisgiveninbrackets,insuchcasesboth
referencesaretothesameartefact.
