apparatusoftherole-playermainlyusesspeciﬁcthinking,andthelearneroper-

ateshierarchical(abstract)andcreativecodes,inthecaseoftheself-authoring

person,abstractreasoningprevails.Suchapersonisconducivetoreﬂection,

criticalanalysisandspontaneouscreativity.Teconstructionofseparatecog-

nitiverepresentations,composedofhierarchicalandspeciﬁccodes,leadsto

thecreationofCtwoparallelbutoppositesystems,i.e.theobjectiveIandthe

intentionalI)(Obuchowski,1985,p.227).

Tedevelopmentofthepersonalityconsistsintheindividual)sspeciﬁcexpe-

independentautonomousmodelsoftheworld,concerningaspeciﬁcsituation

oraspeciﬁcexperience.Tesemodelsbecometheobjectofpersonalintentions.

Teycanbearrangedandimproved.Apersonwhobuildsmodelsofhimself

andtheworldiscapableofconstructingthenecessaryknowledgeanddeﬁning

unique,pro-socialfuture-orientatedtasks.Tatexpressesthemeaningoflife

adequately.Aself-authoringpersonispreparedtosetupmethodsandtools

independentlyinordertoachievefuture-orientatedtasks.Tisishowdevel-

opmentalchangestakeplace(Obuchowski,1985,p.226).Inthiswayatran-

sitionfromtheobjectiﬁedformofanindividualtoaself-authortakesplace.

Teself-authoringpersonischaracterisedbytheabilitytoestablishageneral

anddynamicconceptoftheworldandthemselves,sotheycandistancethem

selvesfromwhatisbeinglearnt(Obuchowski,2001).Tispsychologicaldistance

establishesanewqualityoftheperson.Tecognitiveseparationbetweenthe

selfandotherinstancesbecomesapartofthepersonalhierarchyofneeds.
