,referringtohisvery
activeroleintheChartistmovementwhichwasworkingforradical
constitutionalandsocialchangeinEngland,andoutlininghisearlyaliations
withinPolishémigrépolitics,aswellashischampioninginLondonof
mnemonicsandprintinginnovations(whichwonsupportandhelpfromEnglish
capitalists).Thereafter,Beniowskiwaslargelyignored.Evenduringtheperiod
from1945to1989,whenthePolishPeople)sRepublicforegroundedlabour
history,historianstendedtofocusonLondonPoleslikeLudwikOborskiwho
weremoreevidentlycentraltomovementsontheroutetotheFirstInternational.
Whilethe20th-centuryémigréhistoriansofPolishsocialism,AdamandLidia
Ciołkosz,paidseriousattentiontosomeaspectsofBeniowski)scontribution,he
inevitablyappearsonlyenpassantintheirwide-rangingstudy.
