ofJudea,forthisiswrittenthroughtheprophet,
2.6‘YouBethlehem,landofJudah,
areinnowayleastamongtheprincesofJudah:
foroutofyoushallcomeagovernor,
whoshallshepherdmypeople,Israel.’”
2.7ThenHerodsecretlycalledthewisemen,andlearnedfromthem
exactlywhattimethestarappeared.2.8HesentthemtoBethlehem,and
said,“Goandsearchdiligentlyfortheyoungchild.Whenyouhave
foundhim,bringmeword,sothatIalsomaycomeandworshiphim.”
2.9They,havingheardtheking,wenttheirway;andbehold,thestar,
whichtheysawintheeast,wentbeforethem,untilitcameandstood
overwheretheyoungchildwas.2.10Whentheysawthestar,they
rejoicedwithexceedinglygreatjoy.2.11Theycameintothehouseand
sawtheyoungchildwithMary,hismother,andtheyfelldownand
worshipedhim.Openingtheirtreasures,theyofferedtohimgifts:gold,
frankincense,andmyrrh.2.12Beingwarnedinadreamthatthey
shouldn’treturntoHerod,theywentbacktotheirowncountryanother
way.
2.13Nowwhentheyhaddeparted,behold,anangeloftheLord
appearedtoJosephinadream,saying,“Ariseandtaketheyoungchild
andhismother,andfleeintoEgypt,andstaythereuntilItellyou,for
Herodwillseektheyoungchildtodestroyhim.”
2.14Hearoseandtooktheyoungchildandhismotherbynight,and
departedintoEgypt,2.15andwasthereuntilthedeathofHerod;that
itmightbefulfilledwhichwasspokenbytheLordthroughthe
prophet,saying,“OutofEgyptIcalledmyson.”
2.16ThenHerod,whenhesawthathewasmockedbythewisemen,
wasexceedinglyangry,andsentout,andkilledallthemalechildren
whowereinBethlehemandinallthesurroundingcountryside,from
twoyearsoldandunder,accordingtotheexacttimewhichhehad
learnedfromthewisemen.2.17Thenthatwhichwasspoken
byJeremiahtheprophetwasfulfilled,saying,
