Mostoften,excessiveworkloadappliestoperformingunnecessarywork,going
beyondthestandardrequirements,needs,oropportunities.Itmayhavevarious
causes,andmostoftenhasnegativeeffects.Apopulartermforexcessive
workloadis“workaholism”.Useofthisworddrawsattentiontothesimilarity
betweenobsessiveworkingandalcoholism,butithasbecomealabelalsofor
avarietyofotherphenomena.
Whenbrowsingentriesonforumsandblogs,onecanseethatpeoplewrite
aboutmanydifferentcontextsofworkaholism.Excessiveworkloadisasourceof
satisfactionforsomepeople,whereasforothers,excessiveworkloadstemsfrom
thedesiretomeettheexpectationsofthemselvesandothers.Whatmayseemlike
anexcessiveworkloadontheoutside,fromthepointofviewofanemployee,
maybeunderstoodastheimplementationofaparticularobligationtowards

beanacceptablewaytoescapefromaperson’semotionalproblems.Sometimes,
excessiveworkloadresultsfromthefearoflosingajob.Somepeopleperceive
thecausesofexcessiveworkloadinpoorworkorganization.Anotherreasonto
workexcessivelymaybethefactthatitisfinanciallyworthwhile.Sometimes
suchaworkloadbecomesafinancialnecessity,especiallyforpeoplewhoarein
debt.
Alltypesofaddictionshaveapositive,healthymechanismattheirbasis.When
wearehungry,thebrainreceivesasignalaboutthedeclineinbloodglucose
levels,accompaniedbyvariousunpleasantsensations.Afterweeat,notonly
dothesesensationsdisappear,butalsoastateofoverallsatisfactionappearsas
aresultoftheso-calledhormoneofhappiness:dopamine.Therefore,toputit
simply,thereisasubsequenthealthymechanism:theunpleasantsensationof
absenceisremovedasaresultofthetakenactions,and,inaddition,areward
appearsintheformofoverallsatisfaction,whichreinforcesthehabit.Inother
