Duringtheperiodofinstitutionalcontrolofspeech,whichwasimposedin
thePolishPeople)sRepublicintheyears1944-1990,everyculturaltextrelated
toliterature,journalism,painting,music,theaterorfilm,wassubjectedtoas-
sessmentbyfunctionariesofthecensorshipofce.9Tesupervisorysystemwas
total,atleastaccordingtotheassumptionsofitscreators:therewereatempts
toextendthestate“care”toallproductsofhumancreativeactivity,asaresult
ofwhich“censorshipnumberswerefoundonbreadstickers.”10However,the
invigilationapparatusdesignedinthiswaywasnotperfect;forexample,under-
groundpublicationsandsamizdatissuedwithoutstatesupervisionfoundtheir
waytothepublishingmarket.Tisphenomenonappearedonalargerscalein
the1970s,butexamplesofsuchactivitiescanalreadybefoundintheearlier
