noendtobotheverydayandextraordinarychanges.
Overtheyears,IhaveworkedinPoland,Ukraine,Dubai,China,Rus-
sia,Indonesia,andHongKong.Airportsandhotelsweremysecondhome
–althoughaccordingtomywife,theywererathermyfirst.I’vehadboss-
esfromfourteendifferentcountries:Poland,America,China,Malaysia,
France,England,Denmark,Turkey–thelistgoesonandon.I,myself,
haveoverseeninternationalteamsinEurope,theMiddleEast,andAsia,
madeupofjustaboutallnationalities.
IfinishedmycorporateadventureasaRegionalHRDirectorforCom-
mercialOrganizationDevelopmentsupervisingthirteencountriesinthe
AsianandAustralianregion.Beforethat,Ispentfourexcitingyearsin
IndonesiaastheHRDirectorofSalesandMarketing,whereIwasrespon-
sibleforsupportingteamsmadeupoffourandahalfthousandpeoplein
overonehundredlocations.
It’salittleembarrassingtoadmithowmanymistakesImade,andhow
manyculturaltrapsIfellintooverthespanofmycareer,butitisbecause
oftheseexperiencesthatIcannowsharemyknowledge.Thelessons
IwriteaboutinthisbookareonesthatI’veseen–andoftenexperienced
–first-hand,andalthoughtheyweresometimespainful,theywereanim-
portantpartofmygrowth.Thankstothem,Icantellmycurrentclients
–GIcame,Isaw,ImademyownmistakesandIlearnedfromthem”.
Thankstotheselessons,Ihaveauniqueportfolioofskillsfromthe
interculturalmanagementperspective.I’mabletoquicklyandaccurate-
lyidentifytypicalissuesconcerningcommunicationininternational
teams.Iknowhowtointegrateteamsandencouragetheireffectiveness,
aswellastoadviseleadersandmanagershowtheyshouldactinregard
toconflicts.AllofthisispossiblebecauseI,myself,tookpartinallthe
above-mentionedsituations–bothasaleader,andasasubordinate.Above
