Thefigurepresentsthevaluesofthestreamofheatinaclassicfurnacefor

suchafurnaceispresentedinFig.4a.ThefurnaceisinstalledinJapanatNKK
CorporationWorks[2].Afterapartialrevampingofthefurnace,itsthermal
efficiencyrosetothevaluespresentedinFig.3a.Afterafullrevamp,per-
formedonaslightlybiggerfurnace(200t/hinsteadof180t/h),whichincluded
theinstallationofregenerativegasburners,theenergybalancechangedto
thatpresentedinFig.3b.Theschemeofthatsecondfurnacewithfullyre-
vampedgasburnersispresentedinFig.4.
AspresentedinFig.3b,thefullrevampofgasburnersallowsfortheturn-
aroundof51%ofenergysuppliedasfuelintotheairenteringthefurnace.Asa
result,totalenergyconsumptioncalculatedonaunitofmassoftheheated
materialdropsfrom100unitsto49units,whichresultsintheloweringofcon-
sumptionofprimaryenergyforheatingbymorethan25%.Thiscontributes
greatlytothereductionofthegreenhouseeffectthroughloweringCO2emis-
sionbyasmuchas28tonsperhour.
