ferencepapers.Thepaperswerepreparedeitherbytheauthorhimselforin
cooperationwithotherresearchers.Theresearchrequiredtheuseofsophisti-
catedstandsoftendesignedbytheauthor,socomplicatedthatitisimpossible
carryoutinvestigationassoonastheteamalsoforsecurityreasons.
TheinvestigationwasconductedintheTechnicalUniversityofStockholm
(KTH)managedbyProf.W.BlasiakandintheGasTechnologyLaboratoryof
thePoznańUniversityofTechnologywithactiveparticipationoftheauthor's
doctoralstudents.
Theinvestigationspresentedinthemonographwerefundedbyinstitu-
tionsnamedintherespectivearticles.
Theresearchwasfocusedonthesubjectofhigh-efficiencylow-emissions
combustionofgasesin:
a)industrialfurnaces
b)reciprocatinggasengines
c)gaspoweredwaterboilers
d)gasturbines
Theintroductionpresentsthebasicequationsdescribinggascombustion
intheaboveinstallations,particularlyinwhatconcernstheenergybalance.
Theequationsdescribingelementarykineticsofchemicalprocessesprovide
amplematerialforthetrainingofbothundergraduatestudentsandindustrial
engineers.Theequationswereusedinthepreparationofnumericalinvestiga-
tionarebasedtodaymostlyoncommercialprocedures.Theunderstandingof
theequationscontainedinthoseprocedures(someofwhichcannotatpresent
bereconstructedunlesswithaccesstotheirsourceversions)shouldfacilitate
theunderstandingofcombustionprocesses.Inthiswayitshouldcontributeto
theirwiderapplicationandtoassuringthatcomputationsusedinthedesigning
ofinstallationswillbecorrect.
