Ineachchapter,Al-Muqaddasīgivesareportoftheregionand
alistofgoodsimportedtoandexportedfromtheretotheMuslim
world.Forexample,inhisreportontheBulḡārcountryhesaid:
“TherewerebroughtfromBulḡārfursofsable,greysquirrel,ermine
mink,weaselandfox,togetherwithhidesofbeaver,mottlecoloured
hare,andwildgoat.Alsoimportedfromtherewereiron,arrows,birch
bark,furcaps,fishglue,fish,teeth,castoreumamber,tannedhides,
honey,hazelnuts,falcons,swordsandcuirasses,maplewood,Ṣaqālib
slaves,sheepandcattle.Inreturn,uwārizmexportedagriculturaland
manufacturedproducts,includinggrapes,raisins,confectionery,
sesame,cloaks,carpets,coarsecloth,satin,high-qualitybrocadesfit
forgivingaspresents,coveringsofclothwovenwithsilk,wraps,
locks,colouredgarments,bowswhichonlythestrongestcouldbend,
cheese,yeast,fishandboats”[77].

disturbancestakingplacebetweentheRūs,theKhazarKingdomand
thestateoftheBulḡārsinthemiddleandlowerVolgaregions[78].

historicalstudyofthattime.Thevalueofthisworkisassurednotonly
becauseofitsantiquitybutalsobecauseoftheoriginalityandunique
detailsincludedinit.
