life.Suchhelplessnessleadsinconsequencetotheoccurrenceofvariouscon-
flictsandatthefurtherstageitmaytriggeraggressivebehaviour.Thatiswhy
theideaoftheprojectwasparticularlyinterestingandusefulfortheFrench
colleagues.Theynoticedtheopportunitytogainnewpedagogicalinsights
andimprovetheirmethodsofwork.
Furthermeetingsalsoresultedininterestingobservations,reflectionsand
experiencesamongprojectparticipants.TwosessionswereorganizedinPo-
land,thefirstinZielonaGóraandthesecondinKatowice.Generalim-
pressionsofourcolleaguesfromNorthernIreland,FranceandGermanyare
particularlyinterestinghere.MostofthemvisitedPolandforthefirsttime
andthatiswhytheyfounddirectcontactwitheverydaylife,cultureored-
ucationinPolandparticularlyexciting.Thisshowedtheenormousvalueof
suchprogrammesandinternationalprojects.Theirevaluationoftheimage
ofPolandandPoleswassurprisinglypositive.Theystressedthattheirimage
ofPolandbeforethevisitwasbasedalmostexclusivelyonthepicturecreat-
edbymassmediaorexotictalestoldbytheirfriendsandeventuallyitfell
completelyapart.Beingastonishedbythe‘normality,oflifeinPolandthey
re-valuedtheirstereotypicalopinionsofthecountrywheretheproverbial
KowalskiorNowaklive.
TheirobservationsconcerningPolishsolutionsineducationwerealsoof
interest.ThusPoleswereparticularlykeentofindoutwhethertheyshould
stilllearnfromothercountriesorwhetherthemodelsandmethodselabo-
ratedinPolandcouldfunctionaspatternsforothers.Ingeneraltheopin-
ionsexpressedcouldmakethePolishgroupfeelmoderatelyoptimistic.Con-
sideringthepoorfinancingofthePolisheducationitturnsoutthatinthe
opinionoftheforeignparticipantsoftheproject,theproblemsPolesfaceare
universalincharacter.Thedifferenceliesinparticularwaysinwhichsuch
problemsareaddressed.
TheFrench,GermanandNorthernIrishparticularlyappreciatedtherole
andthefunctiontheschoolpedagogueinPoland.Itturnsoutthatsuchpo-
sitiondoesnotexistinGerman,NorthernIrishorFrenchschools.Consider-
ingthefactthatschoolpedagoguesarespeciallytrainedandhavewide,back-
groundknowledgeinpsychologyandpedagogy,thiskindofsolutioncould
beclassifiedasalmostexemplarandworthpopularizinginothercountries.
Inparticularthespecificabilitiesofpedagoguesasmediatorswerestressed
asontheeverydaybasistheyareconfrontedwithvariousconflictsinandout
