Ireland.Integrationprogrammescarriedoutintheseschoolsarecomplete-
lydifferentfromtheideasimplementedinintegrationschoolsinPoland.
InPolishschoolsthemainideaofintegrationappliestothecoexistenceof
healthyandhandicappedpeopleintheschoolenvironmentaswellasinthe
conditionsofeverydaylife.IncontrastinNorthernIrelandtheconceptof
integrationappliesfirstofalltoapeacefulcoexistenceandcooperationbe-
tweenstudentsofdifferentreligionsordifferentworldview.
Itturnsoutthen,thattheproblemofconflictsbetweentheCatholics
andtheProtestantstransferredtoschoolsandtothewholeeducationalarea
constitutesaparticulareducationalproblemforIrishpedagogues.Thatis
whytheyseemtoattachgreatsignificancetotheircompetenceincarrying
outmediationsandnegotiations.Theseabilitiesmayoccurtobeofcrucial
importance.TheIrishteacher,orapedagogue,inhislherdailywork,hasto
reactalmostrapidly,sometimesevenonthestreet,tovariousactsofmutu-
alaggressionamongstudents.
Thusthesolutionsandeducationalprogrammeswhoseaimistoprevent
theoccurrenceofconflictsamongchildrenandteenagersworkedoutinthe
NorthernIrelandareworthyofadmiration.Theyareoftenuniversalinchar-
acterandcanbesuccessfullyappliedinvariouseducationalsituationsforthe
purposeofsolvingdifferentproblems,providedappropriatefacilitiesandfi-
nancialmeansareguaranteed.
Theeducationalideaofsocalled‘outdooractivities,implementedin
NorthernIreland,asamethodofintegratingteenagersandaneducational
toolusedforpreparingthemforpeacefulcoexistenceoccurredtobeparti-
cularlyinteresting.ThisideacanbelooselycomparedtothePolishideaof
socalled‘greenschools,or‘openeducation,.Yetithastoclearlystressedthat
theconceptofPolish‘greenschools,isbarelyanoviceprojectandagross
simplificationcomparedtowhatisplannedandimplementedinNorthern
Ireland.
