as:theprincipleofthedemocraticruleoflaw,theprincipleof
socialjustice,theprincipleofdirectdemocracy,theprinciple
ofrepresentativedemocracy,andtheprincipleofpoliticalplural-
ism.Itistheauthors’beliefthatamongconstitutionalprinciples,
those,too,deserveattentionthatcontainguaranteesofrights
andfreedoms-thus,theprincipleofrespectforandprotection
ofhumandignity,theprincipleofrespectforandprotectionof
freedom,andtheprincipleofequalityandtheprohibitionofdis-
crimination.Amongtheanalyzedprinciples,wefeltitimportant
toincludethosethatrefertofreedomofreligionandthesecular
natureofthestate,and,thus,totheprincipleoftheequalityand
autonomousstatusofchurchesandotherconfessionalassocia-
tions,andalsototheprinciplerelatingtothecharacterofthe
social-economicstructureofthestate,and,hence,totheprin-
cipleofthesocialmarketeconomy.
Thisbookismadeupofninechapters.Theyareallorganized
aroundissuesthattheauthorsconsiderofparticularinter-
est.Thus,inthechapters,thebeginningsofthedevelopment
ofagivenprincipleintheworldandinPolandarediscussed,
alongwithanyevolution,aboveallinlegalactsataconstitu-
tionallevel.Thentheauthorssetforthcurrentunderstanding
oftheprinciplesunderdiscussion,andalsothespecificPolish
approachtothematter,includingpracticalaspectsoftheirap-
plication.Asaconsequenceofthisstructureofindividualchap-
ters,alegal-dogmaticmethodisemployedintheanalysisof
individualprinciples.Thisapproachseemsappropriatesinceit
permitsustosetoutthespecificfeaturesoftheunderstanding
ofparticularprinciplesandcertainproblemsthatresultfrom
thepracticalaspectsoftheirapplication,Inthis,ithasturned
outtobenecessarytorefertotherichrangeofrulingsof,above
all,thePolishConstitutionalTribunal,butalsotothoseofother
courts.InordertostressthespecificfeaturesofPolishsolutions,
itwasalsonecessarytoapplymethodsdrawnfromcompara-
tivelegalstudies.
