ers.Someotherobservatonsfoundinthebookare1)theintroducton
ofinductvetechniques,2)systematzatonofthelearnedstructuresand
3)informatonaboutthegrammatcalrulestobegiventothepupilsin
theformofaconclusivespecificaton.Hisotherbook,ttledLinguarum
MethodusNovissimaalsocontainedanumberoffruitfulsuggestions,
suchas:1)theelementarystageoflearningLatnshouldmakeuseofthe
pupils!vernacularlanguage;and2)apartfromLatin,otherlanguages,
especiallythosewhichare!commonlyknown!,shouldbetaught;itwas
alsoComenius,whofirstconsideredthecommunicatvenatureoflan-
guage.Oneofhismostrevolutonarypostulateswasthatlanguagewas
verycloselyconnectedwiththinkingandreasoning,claimingthatthe
knowledgeofwordswithoutsubsequentknowledgeofdesignatedideas
isfruitless;
HealsodiscussedthebehaviourofFL(i.e.Latn)teachers,writng:(ł)
ifyouwantthem[i.e.pupils]toknow,showthemwhattheyshould
do,actwhiletalkingaboutthething,letthemimitateyouasmuchas

Hewasoftheopinionthatsystematcgradatonofthelinguistcmate-

ingitlessdifcult,asthepupilscanacquirethenewmaterialslowly,
