knowledgeconcerningtheirlexisinamoresystematcalway.The
pupilsarealsoobligedtoacquirethewholegrammartogetherwith
someprinciplesconcerningtherulesofusage;

Thethirdstage(Atrium)goesonforayearandahalfandiscon-
structedonthebasisofthetwopreviousones.Thisstagecomprises
thefinalclassificatonofthelexicalitems,aswellastheirsynonyms,
antonyms,homonymsandcomplexwords.Despitethatpupilshave
toacquire[1]idioms,[2]paraphrases,[3]rhetoricandpoetcalfig-
ures,aswellassynthetze[4]grammatcalandstylistcrules;

Thefinalstage(Thesaurus)lastsforthreeyearsandisdevotedto
extensivereadingaswellastheanalysisoftheworksreadbythe
pupils.Theworkstobereadintheoriginalconcernedthemostfa-
mousauthors.
Alltheteachingaidsshouldgoinaccordancewiththepupils!levelof
thelanguage.Thehandbookshouldnotonlycontainthetextstobe
elaboratedonbythepupils,butalsoanumberofvocabulary-explain-
ingillustratonsconnectedwiththetexts.Thegrammatcalrulesought
tobegivenwiththehelpofexamples.Theaveragedifficultyofthe
texts,thelexemesandthegrammatcalrulesoughttomatchtheyear
ofthelanguagestudyfollowingtheprincipleof!firstthingsfirst!;
