Abstract:Thisstudyaimsatprovidingafullinterpretationoftheindeterminatehow
words偌jua7and幾kui2inTaiwaneseSouthernMin.Theycanbetakenaspartial
variables,andareeachuninterpretablealone,andhavetobevaluedbyanoperator
refectingoneofclausetypesinCPtobecomeinterpretable.Theamphibiousstatus
of偌jua7withrespecttointerrogativesandexclamativescanberesolvedbyevok-
ingthecheckingrelationshipbetweenoperatorsandindeterminatehowwords.The
interrogativeandindefiniteinterpretationof幾kui2canbealsodisambiguatedbythe
similartypeofcheckingoperation.Ipositapositivequantityelementfitsue7‘much,
many’asasharedfeatureofdegreeacrossclausetypes.Suchacommonfeatureof
anearlypositivequantifier夥ua7isalsoattestedinthefusedform偌jua7fromadia-
chronicperspective.
