MargaretS.ArcherreceivedherBachelor’sdegreeandPhDinsociolo-
gyfromtheLondonSchoolofEconomics(LSE)withathesisentitled
TeEducationalAspirationsofEnglishWorkingClassParents:TeirFor-
mationandInfuenceonChildren’sSchoolAchievements.Shethencom-
pletedpost-doctoralworkatL’EcolePratiquedesHautesEtudesatthe
SorbonneinParis.Inthelate1960ssheworkedwithPierreBourdieu’s
équipe.ShehastaughtatCambridge,LSE,andtheUniversityofWar-
wick,whereshereceivedthetitleofProfessorin1979,andmostrecently
atl’EcolePolytechniqueFédéraledeLausanne,whichisoneoftwofede-
raluniversitiesinSwitzerland.Currently,asProfessorandDirectorof
theCentred’OntologieSocialeduCollègedesHumanités,M.S.Archer
headstheprojectFromModernitytoMorphogenesis[PASS,2015a].
From1972to1982,M.S.Archerwastheeditorof“CurrentSocio-
logy“,anofcialjournaloftheInternationalSociologicalAssociation
(ISA).In1986atthe12thWorldCongressofSociology,M.S.Archer
waselectedthefirstfemalePresidentoftheInternationalSociologi-
calAssociation(1986-1990)[ISA,2015].Moreover,M.S.Archeris
afoundermemberofthePontificalAcademyofSocialSciences,foun-
dedbyPopeJohnPaulIIin1994,inordertoadvisethePopeinmat-
tersregardingadvancingcatholicsocialteaching.M.S.Archerisalso
afoundermemberoftheAcademyofLearnedSocietiesintheSocial
Sciences,andaTrusteeoftheCentreforCriticalRealism.InMarch
2014,M.S.ArcherwasappointedbyPopeFrancisasPresidentofthe
PontificalAcademyofSocialSciences[PASS,2015b].
M.S.Archerhaspublished13books,7ofwhichhavebeentrans-
lated,unfortunatelytodateonlyoneisavailableinPolish.Additionally,
sheeditedorco-edited14booksandpublishedover60articlesupuntil
2004.Hermostfamousworksconsistoftwotrilogies.Tefirsttrilogy
waspublishedbetween1988and2000andfocusesonmorphogenetic
andmorphostaticapproachestosocialchange.Tesebooksare:Cul-
tureandAgency:thePlaceofCultureinSocialTeory[1988],RealistSocial
Teory:theMorphogeneticApproach[1995]andBeingHuman:theProb-
lemofAgency[2000].TelastbookherewastranslatedintoPolishby
