TakingPolishcultureintoaccountwasmadepossibleaftercom-
pilingin2003thevolumeentitledKulturawnauczaniujęzykapolskiego
jakoobcego(CultureinTeachingPolishasaForeignLanguage;Cracow2004),
whichcontainssuggestedsyllabusesofteachingPolishcultureandre-
ality,preparedbyauthorsfromCracow,Warsaw,WrocławandŁódź.
PrzemysławE.Gębalistheauthorofideasfornewcommunicativeac-
tivitiesinLessons4,6and10,andalsotheauthorofthefinaltest
reviewingthematerialforlevelA1.Warmthanksshouldgotohimfor
hisinnovativeideasandeffortindevelopingthem.
Cultureshouldnotonlybepresentinthesyllabus,itshouldbe
conspicuousinthecoursebook.Workonitsconspicuousnessandon
theneweditionofthecoursebookwastakenonbytheeditingteam
fromtheUniversitaspublishinghouse:EdytaPodolska,editorWanda
Lohman,andMirosławKrzyszkowski.Theyhavecreateditsattractive
design.Withouttheircreativeenergyandgreateffort,theauthor’s
ideaswouldhaveremainedintherealmofdreams.Forrealizinghis
dreamsofamoderncoursebookforbeginnerstheauthorisdeeply
gratefultothemall.
Itisassumedthattocompletethecoursebookoneneedsapproxi-
matelysevenweeksofanintensivecourseinPoland,wheremorethan
20contacthoursperweekaredevotedtolearningthelanguage.This
meansthattheteachershoulddevoteapproximately10hoursto
teachonelessonunit.Incoursesthattakeplaceabroadonesemester
isrequiredtoteachtheentirecoursebook.
Thiseditionofthetextbookforbeginnersreflectsnewdevelop-
mentsinteachingandtestingPolishasaforeignlanguage.Italsotakes
intoaccountEuropeanstandardsinteachingforeignlanguagesinclu-
dingtheculturalsyllabus.Forthesereasonsthisneweditionofthe
textbookforlevelA1hasthenewtitleSpotykamysięwPolsce.Itwillbe
continuedinthebookforlevelA2,SpotkajmysięwEuropie.
