Abstract
Themainpurposeofthisstudywastoidentifydeficienciesinsomaticandmotor
developmentofpersonswithvisualimpairment(VI),basedonthechangesinbasic
featuresofanthropometriccharacteristicsandconditioningandcoordinationmotor
skillsinlong-termandscreeningresearches.Therewereusednormsdeterminedfor
theable-bodiedpeersinPolishpopulation.Thereliabilityoftoolsassessingfunc-
tionalbalanceandbilateralcoordinationwasexamined.
Inthislong-termstudies,thatwereuniqueatthepolishandinternationallitera-
ture,intestsrepeatedeverysixmonthsfor4-5years,54participantsaged7-16years
fromEducationalCentreinLaskitookpart.Theassessmentofthebalanceof175
participantsaged6-16yearswithVI,wasconductedinfiveeducationalcentersin
Poland.Inbilateralcoordinationstudies75participantsfromtheEducationalCentre
inLaskitookpart.
Toevaluatebasicanthropometricfeaturesandresultsinphysicalfitnessteststhe
PhysicalFitnessTestingoftheDisabledProjectUNIQUE[WinnickandShort1985],
centilechartsandscoretablescreatedforPolishpopulationwereused[Dobosz2012a,
2012b].ToexaminebalanceandbilateralcoordinationofpersonswithVI,functional
testsfromtheBruininks-OseretskyTestofMotorProficiencySecondEdition(BOT-
2)wereapplied[BruininksandBruininks2005a,2005b].
Basedontheresearchanalysisitwasfoundthat,despitethetotallossorserious
visualimpairment,developmentofthebasicanthropometricfeaturesofparticipants
aged7-16yearswassimilartothatobservedinPolishpopulationofable-bodiedpeers.
DevelopmentofphysicalfitnessofblindpersonsestimatedbytheProjectUnique
tests,wasslightlybelowtheaverageofthePolishpopulation,howeverthepaceof
changesandthequantityofdifferencesvarieddependingonthetest.Amongthe
evaluatedcomponentsofphysicalfitness,onlythedevelopmentofhandgripstrength
wassimilartothatobservedinthePolishpopulation.Thelowestlevelandthehighest
paceofthedevelopmentofresultsofblindchildreninrelationtothePolishpopula-
tionnorms,wasobservedintherunfor50metersandinthestandinglongjump.
Deficienciesinmotorskills,whicharenecessaryformasteringquickrunandstand-
inglongjump,werenoticedamongschool-agechildrenandweregreateramonggirls
thanboys.Theresultsobtainedinthesitandreachtestbysomesubjectsaged13-16
years,mayindicatedeficienciesorhighriskofoccurrenceoflimitationsonmobility
ofjointsinvolvedinthetest.
TheresultsoftheresearchhaveshownthatVIwasthefactorthathadnega-
tiveaffectonthepersons’withVIabilitytomaintainbalanceattheageof6-16
yearsintheBOT-2functionaltests.Thedevelopmentofthesubjects’balancewas
