shapetheEuropeanNeighbourhoodPolicy.Thepowerandinﬂuenceofacountry

intheEuropeanUnionisoperationalisedbyassessingthecountry’sperformancein

differentdimensions–intensityofpoliticpreference,skillofalliancebuilding,ad-

ministrativecapacity,persuasiveadvocacyandreceptivenessofothermemberstates.

TheassessmentofthePolishpowerandinﬂuenceontheEUinthecontextofthe

EuropeanNeighbourhoodPolicyprovedittobeinsigniﬁcant.

ThelasttextincludedinthispartofthebookisanarticlebyMartinDangerﬁeld

presentingthechangingroleoftheVisegradGroup.Thissubregionalgroup,consist-

ingofinitiallythreecountries(Czechoslovakia,PolandandHungary)andlaterfour

(CzechRepublic,Slovakia,PolandandHungary),wascreatedwithanaimtofacili-

tatetheEUaccessionforitsmemberstates.Thearticlegivesabriefaccountofthis

stageofthegroup’sdevelopment,focusingmoreonthequestionabouttheroleofthe

groupinthepost-accessionperiodintheenlargedEurope.

Thecollectionwaspreparedaspartofthewiderproject"Europeanisationand

GovernanceinCentralandEasternEurope”ledbytheCentreforEuropeanStudies

oftheJagiellonianUniversityincooperationwithARENACentreforEuropean

StudiesattheUniversityofOslo.Theprojectwascompletedwithsupportgranted

byIceland,LiechtensteinandNorwaybymeansofco-ﬁnancingfromtheEuropean

EconomicAreaFinancialMechanismandtheNorwegianFinancialMechanismas

partoftheScholarshipandTrainingFundfrom2008to2011.Onthisoccasionwe

wouldliketothankourpartnersfromARENACentreforEuropeanStudiesfortheir

involvementandsupportateachstageoftheprojectandforcontributiontothis

volume.WewouldliketoexpressourspecialgratitudetoProfessorHans-JörgTrenz,
