Discourse-AnalysisRoundTableuD-ART”isaninternationalprojectbasedonRound
Tablediscussionformatand,thus,canbeviewedasacollectivereflectionand
constructionofthewayscontemporarylinguisticsinEasternEuropeandbeyond
impliesstudyingsuchamacro-levelunitasdiscourse.Atthesametime,collective
reflectiondoesnotpreventindividualvoicesfrombeingrepresentedtothebenefit
ofdiscussionandgroundinginthefield.Thegenresofthecontributionstothe
volumesvaryfromtheoreticalstudies,researchandopinionarticlestoindividual
researchers’insightsandreflections.Thisvarietyisaimedatgivinganopportunity
toanewlinguisticfield–theLinguisticsofDiscourse–sothatitmayberepresented
fromdifferentanglesandwithdifferentfocalpoints.Asaresult,theseapproaches
willbecomegroundedandbalancedwithintheframeworksexistingintheregion
andintheworldatlarge.Thatis,theseriesisfocusedongivingscholarswhoare
engagedinaseriousresearchprocessanopportunitytoexpressthemselvesand
presenttheirfindings.

andJoannaSenderskapromotesDiscourseLinguisticsasmacrolinguisticsrooted
inappliedresearchstudies(casestudies).Theresearchersfromfourcountries–
Belarus,theCzechRepublic,PolandandRussiapresent13typesofdiscourseintheir
interrelationtoadjoineddiscoursecommunities–initsthreeRoundTables.Asaresult,
theyanswertheresearchquestionshowdiscoursesanddiscoursecommunitiesare
organisedandfunctionframingeachother.Thecasestudiesconductedreconstruct
andmodelfunctionalcategorysetsandverbalmarkersofcommunicativethemesand
cortegesactualised,developtheoreticalandmethodologicalapparatustoretrieve
complexfunctionalqualitativedata,discussthedataofaconfrontingnaturewhich
interfereswiththesocietyexpectationsandnormsand,finally,searchfortheanswers
totheresearchquestionsofbothindividualandcommonnatureontheeffectsof
discourse-rootedcommunicationresearchandcommunication-rooteddiscourse
research.
