issuesofsubjectivity,alterityandabjection.Iwillalsoemploythenotions
ofthepublicandvisibility,reflecteduponbyHannahArendt,whomJulia
KristevaandJacquesDerridarecall.
TegenderandsexualityconcernsofKristevaandCixousarethemost
importantaspectinrelationtomyprojectbecausetheyrepresent,asIargue,
anewhumanistknowledgethatdevelopsandsurpassespost-structuralism.
TemessageofhospitalityofKristevaandCixousiscentraltomythinking.
Tesetwofeministthinkershavereinventedthisqualityandreiteratedits
relevancetocontemporaryculture.Ifollowintheirfootsteps,butalsoattempt
toinvestigatetheirnotioncritically,specificallyinrelationtovisualculture
andsocialactions.Teirrevisionofhospitalityshouldbereappraisedand
assessedfromavarietyofmethodologicalviewpointsaswellascasestud-
ies.Teideaofhospitalityconstitutesanewhumanism(inthewakeoflate
twentieth-centuryanti-humanismandearlytwenty-firstpost-humanism)
thatprovidesafoundationforamoreconstructivevisionofothernessthat
isinturnedinformedbyhumanrights.
Myhopeistocontributetothelstateoftheart’thinkingaboutotherness
anditspolicyimplications,addingtothislineanartisticperspectiveand
directingittowardspublicphilosophy.Iinterpretthethoughtonhospital-
itybyKant,Derrida,Cixous,Kristevaand,atthesametimeIaddmyown
scholarlyworkoncontemporaryartandsocial-visualprojects.Inthisway,
myphilosophyofothernessaimstoexaminetheseprejudicesdirectedat
supposedstrangers.Itattemptstofightthisintolerance,asanoppositionis
strengtheningagainstprejudicedperceptions:criticalpractices,artand/as
