International competitiveness of economies can be approached from various angles. It can be interpreted as capacity to boost international competitive advantage of national industries or as a set of activities designed to improve international competitiveness of companies operating in individual sectors of national economy.
Observation of individual economies of the Asia and Pacific region confirms that national governments of these countries are well aware of the need to design proper political environment and economic conditions to improve the level of innovativeness and sectoral competitiveness. This requirement is also reflected in the papers presented in this volume.
This book addresses a number of key determinants of international competitiveness analysis, as applied to the specificity of the Asia and Pacific region. Some authors presented in this volume focus on various aspects of the international competitiveness of Asian economies, both dominant (such as China, India, and Japan) and emerging (such as Nepal). Others concentrate their efforts on the competitiveness problems and dilemmas of selected markets and sectors of the region.
The papers presented in this book represent material submitted to the fourth international scientific conference entitled “Faces of Competitiveness in Asia Pacific. Region – Country – Enterprises”, organized by the Department of International Economic Relations at Wrocław University of Economics. The conference was held under the patronage of Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Polish Ministry of Economy, and the Embassy of Japan in Poland.
