(e.g.,togaineconomicandsocialprosperity).Gloger’sanalysisleads
tosomeinterestingfindings:comparedtoAmericanfilmproductions,
GermanGenerationXcinemaprimarilyconsiderssocialfactssuchas
deprivationandunemployment,themythsofbeingrichandofbeing
attherightplaceinsociety.IncontrasttoU.S.cinema,themotifofthe
self-confidentsubjectthatisabletoliberatethemselvesfrommisera-
blelivingconditionsandlowereconomicstatusbymeansofdeviant
butchallengingcoursesofaction,suchasbybeinganentrepreneur,is
almostnon-existentinGermanmovies.
Thelasttwoessaysinthethirdsectionfocusonregionaldevelop-
mentsreassessedina4glocal’perspective.TheessayofGalaRebane
considersregionalidentity-buildingprocessesinNorthernItalythat
havebecomesubjecttorevisionandmodificationduetoabreakwith
establishednationalhistory.Thesekindof4invented’narrativeshave
introducednewandinsomerespectinnovativecollectivehistoriogra-
phiesinrecenttimes.However,italsoshowsusthatglobalizationand
regionalizationaretwosidesofthesamecoin.Recently,regionalist
movementsfromtheNorthernregionshavebecomeofparamount
importancebecauseoftherebirthofterritorialpolitics(partlysupported
bythepartyofLegaNord)withintheItaliannationstateandbyputting
forwarddifferentformsofculturalandcollectivelysharedidentitary
narratives,suchasCelticheritage.Rebane’sreconstructionsofthispar-
ticularcollectiveidentitymytharebothstimulatingandintriguing:with
theaidofadescriptionoftheexclusionaryrhetoricsanddisintegration
attitudesoftheseregionalistmovementsaswellasbymeansofdisplay-
ingits4mythopoetic’symbolism(e.g.,thethree-rayedtriskelion)sheis
abletocharacterizethe4Celticity’inNorthernItalyasanewlocalized
phenomenabothtotheItaliannationandtoEurope.Lastbutnotleast,
MaikArnoldexploresinhisessaytheempiricalevidenceandvalidity
ofaperhapsongoingsecularizationprocessinPoland.Inaccordance
withJoséCasanova’s(1994)hypothesisthatasecularizedEuropeneeds
tobeconfrontedwith4specialcases’of4overandundersecularization’,
theauthorarguesthatthe4causaPoloniasemperfidelis’showsusso
faranexceptiontotheruleinEasternEuropeantransitioncountries
