KMigration”issaidtobeintheEuropeanagenda,especiallyintheEuropeanUnion
andmostparticularlyinthebordersoftheso-calledSchengenarea.Thereare,of
course,importantrecentgeo-politicaldevelopmentsleadingtothisconcern.Butthe
themeisasancientashumanity,sinceallofhumanhistoryispunctuatedbymove-
mentsofpeoples.Movementsinbothsenses,ofcourse,andnotonlyintheuni-
directionaldimensionoccupyingmostofthecurrentdebatewithintheKEuropean
fortress”,whereKmigration”isbasicallyreducedtotheKimmigration”facet.
Thus,theothersideofthecoin,theKemigration”facet,iscommonlyavoidedas
uninterestingorunimportantforthecomprehensionoftheproblemandcomestobe
consideredassomethingstrangetoourownexperiences.Itactingso,manyofthe
KEuropeanfortress”inhabitantsseemtohaveforgottenthecontinent,spast,sincethe
historyofEuropeismainlyahistoryofemigrationtootherlatitudes,emigrationoften
dictatedbygettingawayfromwarsoreconomicdeprivation.Duetoallthepossible
reasons,beingtheself-interestingonesnotthelessimportantones,thecausesofthe
migratoryphenomenonmustbesoughtintheiroriginatedterritoriesand,therefore,
intheemigrationmovements,ratherthanintheirconsequences,viewedfromout-
side,theimmigration.
Inotherwords:Itisundertheemigrantconditionthattheimmigrantshouldbe
understoodandmuseumscanbeusefultools,incertaincircumstancesevenimpor-
tantrecourses,tomaketheseperceptionsvisible.Interritoriesofdestination,they
canconstituteneutralspacesofintegration,placesinwhichitispossibletodiscuss
sensitivesubjectsor,asitwassaidinthisyear,smottofortheInternationalMuseums
Day,spacesof„sayingtheunspeakable”.Intheterritoriesoforigin,museumscanbe
convokedtoplayanevenmoreimportantrole,accordingtotheworldwideICOM
definitionofmuseumsasdevicesforsocialdevelopmentandcommunityconciseness
