Absenceofdayandnightcanbeunderstoodintwoways:firstlyasabsence
ofbasicoppositionoflightversusdarknessthatallowsonetodiscernwhatis
manifestedandwhatisunmanifested;secondly,asalackoftemporaldivisions.The
factthatabsenceofthesign(praketd)ofdayandnightisrepeatedhereconfirms
thattheprecreativestateisunderstoodasthelackofpossibilitytodiscriminateand
cogniseanything.
Inversescandd,forthefirsttimeinthehymn,wecomeacrossanaffirmative
statementaboutwhoorwhatdoesnotcogniseandisnotcognised,whoorwhat
thishomogeneousrealityiswhichuntilnowcouldonlybedescribedbynegative
andinterrogativestatements.ItisThatOnebeyondwhichthereisnothingelse.That
Onebreathes,soitisalivebutitbreathes‘breathlessly’(avdtdm),orwithoutbreath.
Thisisaveryimportantexpression.ThebreathlessbreathofThatOneisdifferent
fromthebreathknownfromeverydaylifeexperience.Iftherecipientcreatesablend
consistingoftwoinputspacesofabreathinghumanbeingandanon-breathingone,he
willcreateintheemergentspacetheconceptofsomeonewhoperformsaninternally
contradictoryactivity:hebreathesanddoesnotbreatheatthesametime.Inthisway,
realityembracesallpotentialoppositionsofthefutureworld(includinglifevs.death,
butalsootheroppositionsasmasculinevs.feminine,dayvs.nightetc.).Atthesame
timeóntdavdtdmexpressesyetanotherconviction:ThatOneisanentitygoingbeyond
alltheconditionsofthecreatedworld,beyondallthelawsholdinghere,evenbeyond
lawswhichexcludecontradiction.Wearelimitedbyoureverydayexperience:wecan
eitherbreatheornotbreathe.Fromthatperspective,aviolationoftheseeverydaylimits
andattainmentofthestateprecludedbythemconstitutesthemostperfectrealisation
offreedom.Henceitfollows,Iwouldargue,ThatOneisfree.
ThefreedomofThatOneisconfirmedinhowthewordsvadhóisusedto
qualifyitsactivity.Asitwillbeshown,thewordsvadhóexpressestheabilityto
performaninternallycontradictoryactivitythatgoesbeyondeverydayexperience
(seesections7.4,12.2.1.4).Thismeaningrevealsitselfhere:svadhófunctionsas
theadverbialmodifierqualifyingtheinternallycontradictoryactivityofThatOne
andexpressingitscauseor/anditscharacter.
Inmyopinion,theuseofsvadhóatthispointisintendedtoexpressamore
generalphilosophicalconvictionthat,intheprecreativestate,realitydoesnotcognise
becauseitdoesnotwanttocogniseandnotbecauseitcannotdosoduetoanyinner
orouterlimit.Thatwouldmeanthattheprecreativestateisunderstoodasthestate
oftheAbsoluteinthesamewayitisdefinedinEuropeanmetaphysics:asperfect
fullnesswithoutanylackwhichcouldjustifyfuturecreation(seeanalysisofakdra
atsection3.4.5).TheAbsolutedoesnotneedtheworldandisnotforcedtocreate
it.Butitcanifitwillsthat.
Concluding,wecouldsaythatthesecondhemistichofthestanzadescribesthe
beginningofcreation:therealitywhichdoesnotcogniseandisnotcognised,begins
