Accordingtotheauthor’sestimations,likealargepartof
thehistoriographyoftheSouthCaucasus,theimportanttime
caesuraforthehistoryoftheregionbetween1914and1921
wastheendofWorldWarI,whenthisareawasnolonger,at
leastformally,politically,militarilyandeconomicallyde-
pendentfromthedefeatedTurkeyandGermany.Ontheoth-
erhand,thethreeSouthCaucasianrepublicstriedtofunction
asfullysovereignstatesexperiencingnumerousinternal
problems:political,social,economic,etc.Inaddition,their
geopoliticalsituationwascomplicated,theindependence
beingthreatenedfirstbyRussia’s“white”andthenby“red”
armedforces,andlaterbytheKemalistTurkey.Atthesame
time,particularlyintheinitialperiodaftertheendofthe
WorldWarI,dependingontheanalysisofthevariousas-
pectsoftheinternalsituationandtheinternationalsituation
oftheSouthernCaucasuscountries,themilitary,economic,
andpoliticalpresenceoftheUnitedKingdomintheregion,
particularlyimportantuntiltheendof1919,facilitatedor
impededtheirdevelopment.Therefore,theauthordivided
