Machinesofthefirstgroupincludepumpsormotorsfeaturingtheexternalinvo-
lutegearing,fixedrotationaxesandthefixedchannelsandclearancessystem.Ofall
theHGMs,machinesofthefirstgrouparemostfrequentlyappliedinpractice[68].
Machinesofthesecondgroupincludepumpsormotorsfeaturingtheinternal
involutegearing,fixedrotationaxesandthefixedchannelsandclearancessystem.
Machinesofthatgroupareofmorecompactdesign,smallersizeandmassthan
themachinesofthefirstgroup[66,67].
Machinesofthethirdgroupincludepumpsormotorsfeaturingtheinternalcycloi-
dalgearing,fixedrotationaxesandthefixedchannelsandclearancessystem.Machines
ofthatgroupareofanevenmorecompactdesign,smallersizeandmassthan
themachinesofthesecondgroup.Theyareoftenreferredtoas‘gerotormachines’
[80,82,83,84,85].
Machinesofthefourthgrouparepredominantlylowspeed,high-torquemachines
withtheexternalorinternalinvoluteorcycloidalgearing,moveableaxesandthesys-
temofmoveablechannelsandclearances.Machinesofthatgroupareofsmallsize
andmassrelativelytothepowergenerated.Theyareoftenreferredtoasorbitalor
planetarymachines[80,82,83,84,85].
Thatgroupalsoincludestheorbitrolcontrolunitsandthemultifunctionalhydrau-
licgearmachines.
ThesystematicsoftheHGMcanalsobecarriedoutdependingonothercriteria
ofdivision.Regardingtheirdisplacement(capacity),theHGMcanbedividedinto
theconstantandvariabledisplacement(capacity)machines.
Fromtheviewpointofindependentstreamsflowingthroughthemachines,
thesingle-ormulti-streamunitscanbedistinguished.
Regardingthewaythemachinesareconnected,thesingle-stageormulti-stage
machinescanbedistinguished.
1.2.Designingmethodology
Hydraulicgearmachinesaredesignedinasystematizedway.Basing,amongothers,
onthesource[60,62],inFigure1.3adiagramofmethodologyfordesigningand
studyinghydraulicgearmachinesispresented.Themethodologyincludeselevensta-
gesofdesignandstudy.Eachofthestagesissymbolicallyillustratedbyadiagram
ofamachine,whichshowswhatdesignproblemissolvedwithinitsframework.
Theproblemismarkedinthediagramwithasolidline.
Atthefirststageofdesign,aconceptofaparticulardesignsolutionforanHGM
isdeveloped.Withintheframeworkofthatconceptitisnecessarytoselectamachine
typeoutoffourmachinegroupsshowninFigure1.2,andconsequently,thefollowing:
