receptiondoesnotsufficeandneedstoberecalibrated.(Presumably,
anegative,or,shouldIrathersaynegativist,approachtothenovelsin
questionhasbredalargenumberofstudiesonthenegativeaspectofthe
novels.)Becauseofitsassociationsandconnotationswiththesemantic
terms,IcallthehermeneuticsHperformative”[seeDavisandPostlewait,
eds.2013:31].Overall,theperformativehintsatbutfundamentallydif-
fersfromKutnik’snotionofHperformativenovel”whichconceptualizes
anyartthatHnotsomuchsayssomethingaboutrealitybut,byitsoccur-
