unexpectedlyintertwinedduringtheSecondWorldWar,
whenPolishpeople,releasedfromtheSovietcamps,
foundtheirshelterinIran,whichwasthenoccupied
bytheAlliedForces.Thoseeventsleftanindeliblemark
inthecollectivememoryofthetwonations.SamadAli
Lakizadeh,theAmbassadoroftheIslamicRepublic
ofIran,referredtothatinhisspeechattheUniversity
ofWarsaw:
“Noonecanseeasinglenegativepointinhistory
ofthetwocountries’relations,especiallyinfive
centuriesofofficialcontacts.Accordingly,wecansay
thatthewarmreceptionofPolishChristianfellows
isthebrightestpartofthiscommonhistory”.
Theinspirationforthebookcamefromthe70th
anniversaryofthearrivalofPolishrefugeesfromthe
SovietUnioninIran,whichwascelebratedin2012.
Memoryofthepasteventscamefloodingback;the
ceremoniescommemoratingthosedaysrekindled
itgreatly.
TheDepartmentofIranianStudiesattheUniversity
ofWarsawbecameinvolvedintheactivitiesserving
topreservethecollectivememoryofwhathadhappened
tothePolishpeopleinIranbyorganizingaseminar
dedicatedtotheeventsofthosedays.Wegaveitatitle
